Idle No More is a grassroots aboriginal rights movement opposed to the Canadian government's Bill C-45. The omnibus budget bill, among other things, overhauls water protection and undermines the treaty consultation process. Yesterday, the movement won a minor victory: Prime Minister Harper agreed to meet with First Nations leaders.
I laud Idle No More, and am particularly thrilled to see so many indigenous youth participating. I also hope that this is the beginning of a fight for native rights across North America. The movement, and the people behind it, make me proud to be Canadian.
